Team up with a friend
Numerous studies have shown that most people enjoy working out with friends, family or colleagues much more than sweating it out alone. Making a commitment to exercise with a friend can also be a great motivator. You’ll be less likely to miss a session if it means letting down your friend. Plus, if you’re new to exercise, having someone else on the journey with you can encourage you and give you some much-needed moral support.
Add some entertainment
If you’re working out alone, especially when you’re doing cardio, things can get a little monotonous. Adding some entertainment can also help distract you from what you’re doing, allowing you to push harder and focus less on the strain of the exercise.
Luckily, we all have endless entertainment right in our pockets. Plugging in some headphones and putting on a podcast or audiobook is a great way to keep you going, as you’ll be more focused on the story than the reps you’re putting in.
Music is also a great motivator, setting the pace and boosting your mood. Make a workout playlist full of upbeat tracks and lose yourself in the music!
Relive your childhood
Do you remember the endless energy you had when you were a child? Tap into that energy by doing the same things you used to love when you were younger, such as playing soccer in the park, throwing frisbees or even just racing against your friends.
Remember that all activities are exercise. Even putting on a playlist of the music you used to rock out to as a teen and dancing like crazy in your living room counts!
Do it for a good cause
What if you could align your personal goals with that of a good cause? Signing up for a charity run that raises money for a cause close to your heart can be an excellent motivator, as you’ll be that much more driven to get in shape for the event.
You could also do something active that helps out your community, like cleaning up a local park or beach.
Reward yourself for your progress
Rewards don’t have to undo your gains – a tasty yet healthy snack like fruit and yogurt can be an excellent incentive. Think about the simple pleasures you have in life and treat yourself to the best. Enjoy a good cup of coffee? Grab some delicious beans and make yourself a fresh cup. Love binging series? Give yourself an hour of guilt-free watching after every exercise session. Little rewards can go a long way.
Invest in decent exercise equipment
